As Apple prepares to enter the foldable phone market, one of the most notable moves has come from Samsung. The South Korean tech giant is building a dedicated OLED panel production line for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Built at Samsung Display’s A3 facility in South Chungcheong Province, this dedicated line is designed to operate exclusively for Apple.
Samsung to Produce OLED Panels for Foldable iPhones
According to industry insiders, the new production line will have a monthly production capacity of 35,000 foldable displays and an annual production capacity of approximately 15 million. This figure represents a significant increase compared to Apple’s projected production volume for the foldable iPhone.
Apple is reportedly planning an initial production capacity of 6 to 8 million units for its first foldable iPhone, expected to be released in 2026. Samsung’s decision to build capacity well beyond this level further reinforces expectations that Apple plans to release new foldable models annually.
Apple is currently testing prototypes for this model. Once the final design and hardware details are finalized, the device will reportedly enter mass production. According to the current schedule, Apple plans to unveil the foldable iPhone in September 2026.
Samsung’s establishment of a separate production line for Apple demonstrates the strategic nature of the technical collaboration between the two rival companies. What are your thoughts on this? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
